Special study of Greek words

The occurrence of Greek words in the johannine books

The references under respective word in the commentary aim at being complete as to John, 1-3 John and Rev, almost complete as to the Apocrypha and the Synoptics. As to the rest of the OT and the NT, the references often must be seen as examples of the occurrence of respective word. Some words have no special study, usually because we often find these words in the Bible.

That a Greek word only would correspond to one English word is of course a simplification but can perhaps be justified by a wish to be able to separate the different Greek words from each other. The chosen English words are not of necessity the best ones, because it is often very difficult, and in a way impossible, to choose one word or expression among several possible alternatives. But I mean that the importance of being able to separate words and letters in the books of John is so great, that this should take precedence over the importance of finding the best English word in every special context.
